This year has been unlike any other. With businesses being tested by the lockdown and some shuttering down for good, the outlook was anything but rosy. Yet, there were bright spots if you cared to look deep enough. Our most popular stories of 2020 capture the spirit of the beverage industry, in more ways than one. Presenting our top five stories of the year that are worth a read even today.

1 – Oaksmith Review

The sheer number of Indians who are curious about this story continue to blow our mind. At any given time, there are at least a couple of people reading this story on our site. Since it was first published, it quickly became the most popular article on our site, helping us draw even more curious whisky lovers after we started ranking on top for ‘oaksmith review’. We’re proud of this review that managed to draw in an impressive 36% of all visitors to our digital publication in 2020. If you haven’t already, do give it a read here.

2 – Liquor Price List in Mumbai MMR

As bars and restaurants remained shuttered for most of 2020, people began to look at home delivery of liquor with an open mind. However, there were frequent changes in terms of availability, pricing and sudden corona tax on alcohol in some states. We tried to stay ahead of it all with this story by listing prices of all the liquor brands (except wine and beer) available in Mumbai in one place. Needless to say, this article quickly shot up to become the most well-read article in 2020.  Check the story here.

3 – The Legacy of Doctor Brandy’s Reservo No 1

Talking about homegrown brands was suddenly cool after #vocalforlocal started trending. Yet, local brandy brand Reservo No 1 was one of those that felt out of sight even when everyone was searching for local brands. We wrote this story to talk about the brand’s legacy and its various iterations throughout the years as well as its plans for the future. While the initial response was decent, we’ve seen a huge spike in this article since October when the winter season began in earnest. Read the story here.

4 – Making Art Out of Empty Bottles

This one took us by surprise. When we interviewed Nikita John, the brainchild behind upcycling brand Kuppikali, we expected a few art lovers to be interested in her work. But the sheer volume of people reading about upcycling gladdened us, with readership rising day-on-day to learn more about Kuppikali. Do give this story a read here.

5 – 6 New Gins Launch In India

There was a time in 2020 when new gins were being announced at a record pace in the country, most of them from Goa-based distilleries. We dug a little deeper and learned that it wasn’t just a couple of brands but a total of six gin brands that were all set to debut in 2020.
