It’s November 5 once again. The day that Guy Fawkes made legendary in 1605 with the Gunpowder Plot to blow up the UK Parliament in the midst of a religious war that had gripped England. Admittedly, the day was made popular by the graphic novel and the movie V For Vendetta based on it.
We couldn’t pass up this opportunity simply because of the eerie coincidences in the movie/ graphic novel and the world we’re living in today. Then, of course, there are the cocktails.
In the UK, November 5 is celebrated as Guy Fawkes Night, Guy Fawkes Day, Bonfire Night and Fireworks Night. Its history begins with the events of November 5, 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding gunpowder the plotters had placed beneath the House of Lords to blow it up.
As per Wikipedia, “Celebrating the fact that King James I had survived the attempt on his life, people lit bonfires around London; and months later, the introduction of the Observance of 5th November Act enforced an annual public day of thanksgiving for the plot’s failure.”
Whereas the movie V For Vendetta talks about civil wars in US, a virus ravaging Europe etc in the future year of 2020! If that isn’t eerie with what’s happening, we don’t know what is.
Then there are the cocktails. We’ve made Sour Martini, Blood and Sand and Gunpowder. Get all the details in the video we made just for the occasion!
