It’s an uncertain time around the world for everyone right now. With coronavirus spreading across the world and rapidly ratcheting up death counts everywhere, lockdown is the only way we’re going to be able to ride out this invisible storm.
It’s also a very different time from when we first hit publish a year ago on Gurgl. The very first story to appear here was this profile of Subham Swain, who makes incredible art with chai. From there, we’ve gone on to publish over 100 pieces of content including this map-based story on craft beer joints in Mumbai that we’re particularly proud of. Among stories, this article on Indian soft drinks that couldn’t stand the test of time is the highest-viewed so far. We also did a couple of events through the year and loved the response we got for them.
There are more things on the anvil as we go into our second year but like everyone else, we’re waiting to brace for the full impact that the coronavirus will have on the F&B industry before we roll them out and share it with you.
To celebrate our first anniversary today, we decided to try and gauge the pulse of the industry and see what professionals have been doing under lockdown. We’ll also try to assess the initiatives that they’ve taken and what needs to be done to heal the industry as quickly as possible. It’s a packed day with not one or two but four Instagram Lives starting at 12 PM and going on long after sunset.
Join us as we reveal the speakers and revel in some solid conversations. Here are all the details that you need to know.
IG Live With Aneesh Bhasin – 12 PM
We’re kicking things off with Aneesh Bhasin. He wears many hats but primary among them is the role of co-founder at Svami that has quickly become the tonic water of choice for most restaurants and bars in the country. Aneesh is also an amateur barista and loves experimenting with new beans and new coffee-making techniques. We’ll delve into all of these and also check how he’s keeping himself fit now that he can’t pursue his other big passion – marathon running.
2 – IG Live With Nikhil Agarwal – 2:30 PM
Nikhil is a well-known name amongst sommeliers like himself. Recently, he also took up whisky education through the Edinburgh Whisky Academy and has already conducted a couple of sessions with those who wish to learn more about drams and distilleries. Known for bringing in top-quality chefs and organising memorable dinners through his venture All Things Nice, this is a chance to learn more about the man behind it all.
3 – IG Live With Gauri Devidayal – 5 PM
Gauri Devidayal has been on a roll ever since she co-founded The Table, one of the best restaurants in the country and also the venue for our offline session. She has been an ardent supporter of National Restaurant Association of India’s Feed The Needy and has also been providing succour to hungry patrons through delivery-only venture Iktara with Chef Amninder Sandhu across Mumbai. This session promises to be full of insights and a look at what lies ahead for restaurants in the wake of coronavirus.
4 – IG Live With Ajit Balgi – 7:30 PM
Our final session is with Ajit Balgi, a sommelier who also became the youngest cognac educator in India last year. Not only that, he has also started a bartending school called The Happy High Bartending School whose first batch of students will have to wait just a little longer before in-session classes begin. We’ll be talking about all of these things and more with Ajit.
