By now, we all agree that sugar is nothing but sweet evil. So it’s only natural that we look to healthier options to satisfy our sweet tooth. And what better than honey to do so? Honey has been consumed by us since time immemorial. Be its medicinal properties or natural sweet flavour, honey has been used since time immemorial.
In an effort to enjoy honey and avoid the ill-effects of sugar, here’s introducing cocktails that use honey and taste divine. From a cocktail with a Parisian touch to tropical Tikis, we have tried to cover them all. Psst: Also, if you’re looking for a cocktail sweetener, its time you dump sugar and make a smarter choice.
Alternative Medicine
Ingredients :
45ml black pepper-turmeric apple brandy
15ml Jamaican rum
22ml fresh lemon juice
10ml honey
10ml ginger syrup
Directions: Combine all the ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake to chill. Strain into a double Old Fashioned glass over one large ice cube and garnish
Bees’ Knees
Ingredients:
45ml gin
1 tsp. honey
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
Directions: Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Shake, strain into a chilled glass and garnish.
Beer And Loathing
Ingredients:
22ml Aperol
22ml fresh grapefruit juice
15ml lemon juice
15ml rich honey syrup*
2 sprigs marjoram, plus 1 for garnish
90-120ml Saison
Directions: Combine the Aperol, citrus juices, honey syrup, and marjoram in a shaker and shake with ice. Strain into an ice-filled Collins or rocks glass. Top with Saison and garnish with marjoram and grapefruit peel.
Brown Derby
Ingredients:
60ml bourbon
30ml grapefruit juice
15ml rich honey syrup
Directions: Shake ingredients with ice until chilled, then strain into a chilled glass.
Charleston Brown Water Society Punch
Ingredients:
3 cups bourbon
2 cups dark rum
1½ cups fresh orange juice
½ cup fresh lemon juice
2 cups honey syrup
2 cups demerara sugar syrup
3 cups soda water
Directions: Combine all the ingredients except the soda water. Chill. Pour into a punch bowl with a large block of ice, and add soda water just before serving, with orange slices for garnish.
Lady Washington
Ingredients:
30ml brandy
15ml elderflower liqueur
22mlfresh grapefruit juice
10ml fresh lemon juice
10ml honey
90mlCava
Directions: Combine the brandy, liqueur, citrus juices, and honey in a shaker with ice. Shake until chilled and strain into a flute. Top with cave and garnish.
Gold Rush
Ingredients:
60ml bourbon
22ml fresh lemon juice
22ml rich honey syrup
Directions: Combine all the ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake until chilled, about 15 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass over one large cube of ice.
New Toronto
Ingredients:
45ml bourbon
15ml sweet vermouth
1 tsp. Fernet-Branca
2 tsp. honey syrup
Directions: Combine ingredients in mixing glass and fill with ice. Stir well until chilled; strain into chilled glass. Garnish.
Oatmilk And Honey
Ingredients :
45ml bourbon
10ml crème de cacao
60ml cold-brew coffee
30ml oat milk
15ml honey syrup (1:1)
Pinch of salt
Directions: Combine all the ingredients in a shaker tin with ice and shake until chilled. Prepare a Collins glass by filling halfway with crushed ice. Strain contents of shaker tin into the glass, add more ice and garnish.
Polynesian Remedy
Ingredients:
52ml dark rum
15ml orgeat
15ml ginger syrup
15ml honey syrup (1:1)
30ml fresh lemon juice
4 dashes smoky single-malt scotch
Directions: Shake all the ingredients with ice, then strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish.
Pearl Diver
Ingredients:
45ml gold Puerto Rican rum
15ml demerara rum
15ml fresh lime juice
15 fresh orange juice
15ml Don’s gardenia mix
1 dash Angostura bitters
½ cup crushed ice
Directions: Combine ingredients in a blender and blend on high for 20 seconds. Strain through a mesh strainer into a glass and add fresh crushed ice to fill. Garnish.
Queen Bee
Ingredients:
45ml bourbon
22ml Amontillado sherry
22ml thyme-honey syrup
10ml fresh lemon juice
1 dash Angostura bitters
Directions: Combine the ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a glass over crushed ice. Garnish.
Plaid On Plaid
Ingredients:
60ml blended Scotch whisky
30ml fresh lemon juice
30ml honey syrup (1:1)
30ml fresh egg white
Directions: Combine all the ingredients in a shaker and shake, without ice, until foamy. Add ice, shake again until chilled, then strain into a chilled glass. Garnish by adding several drops of peated Scotch atop the drink’s foam.
Honeyed Coffee Gin And Tonic
Ingredients:
30ml gin
15ml honey syrup (2:1)
45ml cold-brew coffee
Tonic water
Directions: Fill a glass with ice. Stir to chill the glass, then strain out the melted water. Combine the coffee, honey syrup and gin in the glass. Stir to chill, then top with tonic water, add more ice as needed and twist a lemon peel over the top of the drink and use as a garnish.
Penicillin
Ingredients:
60ml blended Scotch whiskey
22ml fresh lemon juice
22ml honey syrup
10ml smoky Islay single-malt Scotch whiskey
2-3 quarter-size slices fresh ginger
Directions: Muddle fresh ginger in a shaker and add the remaining ingredients, except for the Islay whiskey. Fill the shaker with ice and shake until chill; double-strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Float the whiskey on top and garnish.
